Solo Energy
SOLO ENERGY - ENERGY, SLOWSTYLE + HIP HOP Television, movies, computers and dvd’s are the main inspiration for a style of dance that is perfect for stage and screen. Programmes like MTV have boosted the visual aspect of dance and made it accessible to millions world-wide. Pop stars like Robbie Williams, Madonna, Usher, Britney Spears, Eminem, Jennifer Lopez, Paula Abdul etc use dance as a major part of their live performances, as well as their music videos. It is from this that our Solo Energy has developed and was first taught in June 2005.SOLO ENERGY
BHANGRA Bhangra began as traditional folk music in the North Indian Punjab region. Since the 1990’s, it has been mixed with every music style non-Asians could throw at us: house, disco, hip hop, swing, reggae, drum ‘n bass and UK garage. This music is built for dance – with moves such as playful skipping, jubilant arm-waving and expressive facial gestures. The name bhangra came from the word bhang – hemp, which is grown across the Punjab. The folk dance was for celebrating the harvest and the New Year mels (festival). It originated in dance steps which mimic agricultural activities like sowing, reaping etc. In the mid-1980’s Bhangra raves became popular, and as the music modernised, so did the dancing style evolve. Bhangra has also been inspired by television, movie and stage performances, and has grown into its own popular form of dance. Solo Energy has incorporated this style giving the dancers a wonderful character dance to express themselves with.
